can you post a pick of your little block tongs, we use those blocks pretty regularly and they are a pain.
I will post a picture as soon as I find the tongs. I finished building the wall right before the Air Force sent me to Mississippi for the last 7 weeks. They are somewhere out in the 3' tall grass that didn't get cut while I was away.
They were really easy to make. A 90° bend in each piece, wire them together at a good hinge point and off you go. They worked perfectly for laying the first course, which as you know is the worst one.
you got that right - unfortunately the USAF decided I needed to spend some time in lovely western Illinois (Scott AFB). I'll be home by this weekend and if the wife hasn't thrown all my stuff out into the driveway yet, maybe I'll be able to find them. We've had about 2' (yes, feet) of rain in Boston in May and June - my yard is like a jungle.
Most rebar isn't galvanized... but I will go with you on the poisoning, I worked for a parts manufacturing out fit welding galvanized bumpers, and sucking that smoke every day, I started getting nosebleeds like you wouldn't believe, go for hours, and I'm talking gushers, and I NEVER got nosebleeds before that. I started having breathing problems, and the doc said there was nothing wrong. I finally left that job, moved to a drier climate for several years, and now I am better, but it wasn't looking pretty there for a while... that company did replace the ventilation system, but the damage was done all the same. I still have reduced breathing capacity, but that can be partially due to my lesser activity as well...
