Yesterday morning my 99 5.4 triton stalled only after 2 minutes of driving and would not start again. After a mechanic took a look at it he initially said it was the starter and later came back and said the engine was locked up. He said the oil was barely touching the dip stick and locked up from overheating from not enough oil. I change my oid regularly and normally there isn't any oil loss. Not to mention there has been any oil dropping in my drive way. He said I need a new engine. It only has 125,000 miles. Could it possibly be something else maybe a fail safe relay or something?
if there was barely any oil on the dipstick it doesnt matter how many miles are on the engine, its quite possible that it did lock up. i would say you would atleast need a rebuild. i noticed that my oil was low 1 time and thought it was burning oil but turned out that ford didnt put the oil filter on right, and it wouldnt leak enough for me to notice while it sat with the engine off, but while it was running it would leak really bad, way i knew it was that was that the filter was covered in oil. iv been through 2 oil changes since then and no oil loss.
If it is even touching the stick, you still have about 4 qts or so in it. That shouldn't cause it to lock up. Have they tried turning the engine over by hand with the starter and belt off of it? I have an Astro van do that once and it ended up being a locked up alternator. I wouldn't turn by hand or starter until I removed the belt, then it started right up. It was also running and just quit all at once.
Also check to see if the smog pump locked up they like to go all of a sudden. like posted before remove all the belts and see if motor turns over if so its not a locked motor. Cow
