Expie road trip
Expie road trip
Hello all,
We are driving my 01 expie EB 5.4 2000 miles next week. It has 98k on the ticker and factory plugs and wires. I am going to replace them before the trip, but is it possible to get to that last plug? How do you all do it? It will probably get better mileage with new plugs and wires right? Any tips on other things I should be sure of before setting off for the east coast? Thanks!---Ryan

Hey man-
Budget 5 hours. That is what it took me. A combinationation of 3", 6", and 12" extensions for my socket driver. The plug on cylinder 4 (Left Rear) seperates the men from the boys. It takes some time and patience.
Remove the air intake duct completely from the Throttle Body. That opens up a lot of room right off the bat.
For the COP's I believe it is a 7mm nut. I did not remove any of the fuel injectors. They rotate with some gentle coaxing. Besure to remove the connectors from the COP's before anything. The retainer clip is on the bottom of the connector. It took me a little while to find.
Also, pull the PCV valve hose and tuck it back up in the other hoses. Other than that it is straight forward. The reason it takes so much time is that you can not get much room to turn the socket handle. Depending on your socket handle one or two clicks per turn is what I got. Just have patience. There is nothing that will make it go quicker.
Also, GOOGLE "Spark Plug Replacement Ford Triton 5.4" and you will get some more info and pictures.
