Does anyone know if a cap that fits a 1978 will fit on a 96?

Yes, 1977 thru 1997 will interchange.

Put the cap from my '76 on a '94. One of those "Ford" caps was very heavy. And bought an aluminum one that was on a '88 to put on my '76. Both fit on either rig.

Caps or "camper shells" from 73-79 Ford pickups will fit on any Ford pickup up to 1996.
