I had a 6.9L in my 86 Ford and it finally burned out. I bought a 7.3L and am now going to put it in the truck. With the engine out and everything easily accessible, what should I replace on the engine such as head gaskets and things like that. I need some advice on what to replace that will make this engine run a long time. Thanks in advance.
How many miles are on the 7.3? Depending on the milage, I would consider head gasket set, rings, bearings and seals. A good cleaning and some nice paint wouldn't hurt either!
How hard is it for a beginner like myself to replace the rings and the head gasket and the other things that you mentioned. thanks again for all of yalls help. I am just getting started with this kind of stuff, but i am LOVING it. I can see this becoming an obsession. Thanks
I would make sure to inspect the oil pan and gasket when doing the bearings. With the amount of miles on the engine i would be concerned about the big 'C', especially if you dont know if SCAs were watched.
Boy oh boy, talk about addictions! some times i just find myself crawling around my truck looking for things to fix or upgrade, and when payday comes around i just start thinking what i can buy for the truck! Have fun and take your time and clean things up a lil.
