Has anyone changed out their tailights to an aftermarket product, and if so which one? I have a cracked lens on one, and after looking on Ebay, I found numerous ones with numerous different price ranges. Is this a case of you get what you paid for?
yes, indeed, you do get what you pay for! its as true with your truck parts as it is in life!
now, if you are changing out tails, and want something that looks great, is different (for expy's) and is oem- why not put on navigator tails?!
i did that on my '97. its plug and play. and it gets rid of the silly loopy bumps on the stock expy tails. you need the outer part of the nav tails only.
NOTE- this mod will cause you to lose your backup lights! think it through- you will need to mount aux reverse lights under your bumper, OR- the REALLY sexy way to do this would be to use lincoln blackwood tails! they have the backup light in the tail lens, unlike the gator. awful expensive tho.....
I've had a pair of Altezza's (sp?) for a WHILE. I put amber leds in the clears (that are only on the Navi's) and had to add a second socket for the tails (both clear leds in a red lens).
Why do people call clear taillights "Altezzas"? The Toyota Altezza was the JDM version of the Lexus IS300 here in the states. It had clear lenses in the tails, so that makes all clear lenses Altezzas? The funniest thing is seeing them listed as Altezza Euro style lenses. Last time I checked Japan was NOT in Europe.
In regards to the Ebay listings for taillights, yes you get what you pay for, but for the most part the $50-100 lenses are every bit as good as the $250 lenses. The biggest problem with them is getting moisture in them, so I would ask that question before buying. Beyond that, it's all in what kind of looks you're after.
Well I got the altezza tail lights in and found that installation for them was simple. The bulb fittings fit tightly, but the fit to the body leaves room for improvement. The overall appearance is very good.
