Smile Hi from Alabama

Hi there! Nice site and full of great information! Not to mention the best TRUCKS EVER BUILT! I just my new truck well it's not new but new to me it's a 2001 F250 V10 4x4 xlt CrewCab I love it!! However I do have some concerns when I take off from a stop I notice the drive train seems to slip them catch, kind of hard to explain it. It's almost the feel of the brake releaseing from50% to 100% it happens very fast..Like maybe 10foot roll. I'm new to owning a 4x4 and was wondering was this normal? Got any advice? Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the site

It shouldn't run any different than any car you've ever driven taking off from a light. Have it looked at by a tranny shop.

Welcome to FTE, Raskis

When you say "slip"...is it like a "clunk"? Sort of an instantaneous slip? This could be what is called "Super Duty Clunk" where the slip yoke (behind the carrier or swing bearing) has become loose. Usually removing it and coating it in teflon grease will solve it.

If that's not it, then - like 99 said - take it to the tranny shop and let them check it out.

Thanks guys! I'll check on that Yoke asap and let you know. Thanks for the information. Although I sorta feel it's more like the trans causing the problem. I really hope it's something simple.

Mr big has you covered this has been a common concern with our trucks

Just set the parking brake when looking at the yoke asmm ,also if you pull it to lube it mark it so you get everything back in its orignal positon.

Just got back from the tanny shop.. They test drove it and said it's not the tranny for sure but they was not to sure of what it is..However they were able to make the truck do that "slip clunk" with it in park idling. Hats off to you Big Orn I belive you are right. Now the next question is you have a step by step way to check the yoke? I am a newbi and that's why I asked Thanks FortyFords for the safety tip Thanks once again guys in advance

If it is like my old 150, it is very very simple. Just unbolt the driveshaft, drop the back down, pull the shaft out of the yoke very slowly (making sure you have a brace for it so it won't fall on ground when the shaft comes out), liberally grease yoke with teflon grease, re-insert, tighten shaft back up and you are on your way. It is just about that simple. Took me all of 30 mins. from start to finish and took care of the problem completely.
