First time on an open forum site.Looking for some real help on my 4.0 ranger with a 5r55e transmission. The truck only has 83000 miles but it is shifting like it has 400000! Had a ford tech replace the valve body and adjusted the bands. He said the trans looked good and not burned up. Truck is still shifting hard from 1st to 2nd. Changed the tsp and all the fluid in the trans, transfer, and rear end.NO LUCK. What is the right fluids for the truck. Ikeep getting conflicting stories on what to use that works.I'm ready to see if ford makes a ranger that floats because this one is heading that way! Some one please help!
I had a problem with a 5R55E that would shift 1-2 and almost throw you into the bed even under light acceleration. It turned out to be a leaky valve body gasket. My dealer found it and repaired it. I know you said that someone changed the valve body and assumedly changed the gaskets. All I can tell you is the gasket was the problem on my truck and the repair wasn't a big deal.
Hey thanks for the info. The guy how changed my valve body is a real good friend. I would think he did that with out a question. Is it easy to check the gasket? The hard shift is from 1to 2 and when it down shifts to 2 to 1. All the other gears seem a little hard ,but they are firm and not slipping. It does not do it all the time. Which has me thinking it is a sensor. My manual keep on saying just mercon and nothing specific.
I am having this same problem with my 00 Ranger- 4x4 4.0L. Seems that taking off, the RPM's go higher than normal before shifting, then it shifts real hard into second. It seems to shift fine through the rest of the gears. I checked my fluid when enigine was cold and it was low. Drove for 15min and checked and it was in normal range. I put in some Lucas trans treatment a couple days ago but no help yet. I am interested to see how this thread goes
