94 5 speed 150

i got a 2wd 94 150 4.9 std cab long bed truch with a 5 on the floor. couble questions, ive read some where on hear that this tranny isnt made for really working hard. i pull a trailer from spring to fall with a mower on it ( about 2000lbs) and mabey another 500 lbs in the bed. is this think going to die on me? i try and rev higher and drive better when im pullin but i dunno. it had a new clutch put in b4 i bought it, whats the life expectency of it. as far as a know its a stock cluth from a dealer. givin i pull a trailer for about 8 months on weekends abnd drive it all winter long.

My father has used his to pull his tree machines for years. he changes the fluid often and drives very easy but thats just his style of driving anyways. he use to have a 2.79 rear gear and I swapped in a 3.5 gear for him and now the tranny or motor doesn't work as hard as it use to. he has over 300K miles on that tranny. Just in case it fails I have found 4 spares for him.

I have one sold to a member here and the others I need to hold onto. Two of my fathers trucks have 4 speeds and they are going to be converted to the 5-speeds, some day.

4 spares!! nice inventory :P

The 5-speed gets a lot of flack on this site. But mine has been good to me. Just treat it good, and it'll do the same back. I check my fluid every once in a while to make sure it's full.

They're not that bad of a tranny. Had my father not had the mileage on his then I may have been one of those that hated the Mazda trans. I also have a SB 4x2 ZF trans I just snagged two weekends ago at the yard. I got lucky on that one.
