At What point should I sell my F 250 Soild White 01 7.3 CC Lariat 4X4 LB. Truck has 229,997 miles and it still runs and looks great? Bo the owner of the sheet metal shop I do biz. with told me today "Man what a great looking truck"!! He has had to have seen the thing a hundred times. I already have it's repalcement. Just kinda wondering. It's been paid for, New Destination 305 M/Ts, 2" spring lift, or should I just drive the hell out of it?
Sell a Powerstroke? Have you sold everything else you own? Have you sold all your internal organs not vital to sustaining life and dug through every dumpster for 100 miles for saleable scrap and food to live so you can still drive the truck?
If you answered "no" to any of these questions well, my friend, you are NOT ready to sell the truck.
Let's not hear any more of this "sell my PSD" nonsense, OK? We'll pretend this never happened...
Geoffnj, i could not have said anything more convincing!!!
I've done this after that, and that after this and havent done any real mods. Mine still needs some love. Rotors, brakes, probably calipers, bushings and joints. Hell, new lines while it gets done. But I havent had a chance to get this done and the situation really isnt that serious. I'll do it when I can... BUT SELL HER, NEVER!!
Reasons like this are why my buddies that always drive new laugh at me...
But they dont love theirs' like I love mine!!!
There is a lot to be said about a paid truck, especially if it is a good runner. Any particular reason to sell? I am very happy about mine, looking forward to the day when it is all mine.
The only thing is it has really stated costing. Had to put a Flexplate on last week. Starter a few monts ago. Batteries again before that. HPOP at 203,000 miles, among other things. How long is the OEM injectors going to last. With the larger tires and 2" lift I'm now only getting 13.5MPG!! I love the truck but there comes a time when someone else need to pay for fixing any problems!

MobeyDick I think you are probably encountering the normal turn of events with any 200k+++ vehicle. I doubt it's ever going to be something as major as a whole new engine, maybe at worst a transmission. But you can expect things like water pumps, alternators, brakes, etc on an as needed basis. Is your new truck just as reliable? If your new one has to go to the shop can your business wait for it? Is having the backup worth the maintainance costs?
The 7.3 is still basic enough for the average Joe to be able to work on and not go cross-eyed. The newer ones are buried in tight engine compartments and covers.

Forgive my being misguided, I don't know what came over me.....
That aside, I'm with Geoff, Kwik and anyone else who posted. There was a time when I thought about selling my X just because it had a few thousand miles and I wanted something new. Then I started reading on this forum and found out how much of a good thing I've got. As a result, I'm not ever letting it go for anything! (especially since these things aren't being made anymore ) Someone would have to kill me to get my X from me, even then I'd come back and haunt them, just because.....
But Kwik makes a valid point, if your other truck ends up in the shop, why pay for a rental when you have another perfectly good truck sitting at home? If may give you a few problems every now and again, but these things are man-made, at some point they're going to give you a problem. Besides, that's why you have FTE here.....
All kidding aside, if you really don't want it and don't see a need to keep it, there are many potential Pwerstroke owners out there that have yet to be indoctrinated into the PSD club.
Looks like Geoff beat me to my next post....sorta.....
What I was going to suggest was that it's a free country and you could sell your truck if you wanted to. If you do sell it, you'd have some cold, hard cash for toys on the 06. Based on the description you gave, you could unload that truck for a pretty penny; I'd say about $22k give or take. I'm about to unload a couple things that are collecting dust and the cash from that is definately going towards some new toys for the X.
a 2001 with 223K miles for $22000? NO way jose! my mint 2002 350 with 69000 miles was $25K. i would say for a guy who doesn't know about the diesel world, and thinks the engine is "beat", you would probably get $14-$16K out of it.
all the more reason to keep it. sell the 6.0 and get money from that for mods on the 01.
I paid $12k for my late 99 250 4X4 Lariet LB SC with 115k miles. Granted it has a couple dents, and I "stole" it, but I agree with Strokin' it'd be tough to get more than low teens, especially if it is 2WD. Over 200k miles scares a lot of people. On the other hand, you've replaced a lot already, so there isn't too much more you should have to worry about. Then you should be good to go for another couple hundred grand. I say drive the hell out of it and save your long term money.
my truck has 200,000k miles on it and i wouldnt trade it for anything else. you couldnt trade me a 6 liter for mine even if it is newer and worth twice as much
