Well....Got to check the fluid ( gear oil ) level in my rear diff....f-150, 300 6, standard.
As I am the third owner, I am sure the rear fluid was never changed or checked. Truck has 115,000 miles....The bottom of the diff is a little damp.
How often should the gear oil be changed? But more importantly...How to I get the filler plug out...Is it just a half inch ratchet??? What tool do I need to remove the plug...Thanks!
Gear oil should be changed every 30,000 miles. If you go with a synthetic gear oil, you could probably stretch that to 50,000. If I remember right, you should be able to use a 3/8 ratchet with an extension to loosen that fill plug.
