I've got a voltage draw and can't seem to diagnose where it is coming from. Does anyone have any advice?
thanks
PS: 81 f-150, 351W, pretty much stock except no emissions are hooked up, and I have an Accel Super Stock coil. brand new Alternator, voltage regulator and all fuseable links in the engine compartment by the starter solenoid have been replaced.
Most vehicles have a small amount normally. You can take the positive terminal off of the battery and using a digital multimeter measure the voltage between the battery and the removed terminal. If I remember right less than 6 is considered to be minor. You might have to leave the meter on and unplug and replug things until you find the culprit.
Go buy yourself a test light for $2 because I'm gonna tell ya if it glows at all, it's too much.
Beyond the obvious pulling fuses method, I recommend pulling the + wire to the alternator. A bad diode will cause a draw.
Good luck and keep us posted.
