Does anyone have any info , or rember Ford building a pickup with a 427 cu. in. motor. The best I rember is that it had to be in the mid 60's. I think they were built at Kar Kraft, in Brighton, Michigan. They came with the 427, I think they had 2 4bbl. carbs. They had bucket seats, a car 4-speed transmission, and a console. I think they had 9 inch rear ends, and that the Detroit Locker may have been standard. I have been trying to find out more, for a while, with no luck. Thanks for your help.
I don't think ford ever built this, someone probally buit it and said it was factory, I have had people try to tell me that 8 lug dana 60 rears came from the factory in 5 lug f-100 4x4s. and 4 inches of lift and rancho springs came as standard equipment and a hole in the floor board big enough to climb through and sheetmetal thinned out by ammonia was no rust, and sheetmetal screws were how ford attached side moulding.
AS for the 427 FE was never in a truck off the assembley line Unless it was a special order job witch would have cost some serious coin. But ford did make 429 CJ's from 68-71.

Hillbilly, my 68 F100 Shortbox came from the factory with a 240 straight six, a 4 speed NP435 and a Dana 60-3 5 lug 4.10 limited slip, I have the VIN codes to prove it too Axle code E5, look it up at http://members.aol.com/_ht_a/tbeeee/page/Technical.html that translates into a Dana 60 with 4.10 gears, and it's a F100 with 5 lug wheels so Dana 60's DID come with 5 lugs in F100's from the factory
I am at a real loss with this 429 in a truck, can you produce anything from Ford to support your claim and to help me as I can't recall anything about it.

In the still cool hours of the night,
you can hear chevys rusting away.
I have seen the 5 lug dana 60s, I was talking about 4x4s, and the guy told me it had an 8 lug dana 60 in the rear and a 5 lug dana 44 front from the factory, sorry for the confusion.
FE427, I'd also like to see something definitive showing the 429/460 was offered "stock" from the factory. I ask for this because I have a '68 F250 and have several dealer sources of information, facts, figures, and specifications that have NO mention of such a motor or even being an option. If the 429/460 was offered from the factory, I'd think some of my literature would state it, especially the 1968 Ford Truck Specifications publication from Ford. This book lists tons of engines, including all diesels, but no mention of a 429 or 460. I didn't even know Ford was producing the 429/460 in '68. If you have something I'd sure like to know about it so I can research this further.
The Dana 60 with semi-floating 5-lug axles does exist. They were what was installed in the F-100 4x4 with rear limited-slip rear ends. My '66 Ford Shop manual states that the Dana 60-3 was standard on F-100 4x4 when a limited slip was specified. Plus the Dana 44-3 (Dana 44 center section with 5-lug axles) was standard on F-100 4x2 when a limited slip is ordered. The Dana 60-3 was also an option for the F-100 4x2 when the higher GVW's were specified. Reference the '66 Ford shop manual page 4-32 volume one. It is the orange colored cover. Hopes this clears up a few things.
