Got it lifted

Well, finally got my F-150 Scab lifted and some decent tires on to replace the Hand-Kook tires that were on there...

Got the Top Gun 2.5" that was listed on ebay...it was dirt simple to install and being oil-field trash, Darrell likes dirt simple things.

However, the combo of that and the tires (285/70-17 BFG TA KO's) make my truck look kinda impressive.

Now, I had the 235's on my truck from the factory...now I have these 285's...about what would the speedo correction be? And how much does the Stealer charge to do the correction?

And in reference to the others posting about spacer kits messing up shocks...um...how? I can understand the neoprene kits that you have to bust loose the struts to install...but with the type that I installed, you don't have to change any of that...suspension has travel stops, right? About the only thing you reduce in this situation is the upper travel...it will bottom out two inches sooner than before...and ride quality hasn't changed...with the larger tires, it has gotten better IMO.

I did the same thing as you but I had 255/70R17 and switched to the BFGR AT/KO 285/70R17. Here is a web site link that you can use to calculate the difference in speed. You just enter your stock tire size and the new tire size. Mine is roughly 3 mph faster with the larger tires. http://www.csgnetwork.com/speedocalibcalc.html

big,

I just had a Skyjacker 3" kit installed and I'm VERY impressed with the results. The truck handles better than it did with the stock suspension because the Skyjacker coil-over is firmer than factory. Better cornering and with the greater control arm travel, a smoother ride to boot. I got this kit bought and installed for under $1K bucks.

A shop in North Houston, "Woodlands Performance & Suspension." About $600 for the kit and $300 for install. I'm VERY pleased with this kit.

its a pet peeve of mine when people call a leveling kit a "lift". But yea, you definitely notice a huge difference with those leveling block and chunkier tires. The way Ford should've made them look like that to begin with.

I did it like this...

the three nuts under the fender where the strut is? take them off. then jack up that side, remove the tire and unbolt the upper A arm from the spindle...I took a good size dead-blow hammer and persuaded it to come off. you CAN use a ball-joint seperator, but that will more than likely damage the dust-cover and it will go bad more quickly than normal. Now, with the upper arm off the spindle can be pushed down (careful with that brake line) and the strut assy will be easily gotten to. Bolt the new spacer to the top of the strut assy and being careful with the studs on the spacer, put it back in. bolt it up (don't have the specific torque figures in front of me) but I snubbed 'em up good. Took it after that to get the tires installed and had them do an alignment at the same time.

NOW...some guys say the two piece neoprene kit is better and some don't. I am one of the ones who don't. you are NOT affecting the shock or spring in ANY way with these kits...either the steel or aluminum block spacers. PLUS you don't need to disassemble the strut in order to install this.
MTCW and YMMV

Big...I put a 2" leveler kit on the front of my 06 supercrew and it went in just as db says...piece of cake with a standard tools, a floor jack, and two jack stands, all under two hours. Looks much nicer level, and now I can install larger sneakers. The only thing I had to buy was a 30mm socket, and spend $45 for a minor front end alignment. My kit was an Ez-lift kit which I bought on EBAY for $100. The Ez-lift kit was two aluminum spacers that sit on top of the spring towers and I never had to mess with the coil springs. Shocks were no problem...the length never changed. My next upgrade will be air bags in the back so when I tow my camper I can remain level. But for the most part, I drive without towing so it looks good sitting level. New sneakers for Xmas this year!

You are correct sir...9 months isn't a whole lotta time...save those pennies and dimes...

I like my BFG's, though...not too much road noise...and a good enough tread that I feel comfortable with the trails around the deer lease.
