I don't really remember what my first job was. I think it was working in the office of my uncle's paper shredding business. He placed these blue bins in office buildings and when they were full would go and collect them and the paper would be shred and baled in his warehouse. I made 10 buck an hour. At the same time I was doing some marketing work for A&W Restaurants making 8 bucks an hour. When the office didn't work out I went to work for a social service agency and was making maybe $6.85 an hour.

Each of these jobs happened in the summer of 1992 when I came home from college. I was 21.

At age 10 I talked the corner store into letting me stock shelves once a week, a Saturday afternoon's work in exchange for a 24-case of Coke. Lasted for a year, until I graduated to sweeping the front walk and parking lot daily for $20/month. Bought my first new bicycle ever at age 12 with savings from that job.

I worked for Manitoba Hydro this summer for my first job at $9.32 an hour. I mostly kept the hydro dam clean of caddis flys but I did pretty much anything else there to. My second job the one I have now, I'm a teachers aid at the high school I graduated from last June. I make $12.78 an hour.

first PAYING job

the farm don't count, because that was not a real paying job. my first legal legit job was cleanup for a house painter in 69. $1.00/hr plus he paid for lunch for the crew. the $20 i brought home on sunday night was put rite into household expences. at the time, the family was bringing in around $125/week, so with my $20, we could all go to the movies and get ice cream for dessert during the week.

Well in the summer I turned 12, I mowed a number of yards. My dad was a sitckler for taking what people would offer, so I never bid a job. I mowed up through my senior year in high school and really felt only one person ripped me off. So I guess Dad knew what he was talking about. Don't recall what the average was per hour. I was always paid by the yard. Bought the first car with some of that money.

The year was 1974. I worked 12 hrs/night weekends at a bakery for $1.50/hr. I also worked after school at a garage, can't recall what that paid, but it wasn't much. I paid $25 for a 1959 Plymouth wagon which got me to and from school & work. I soon upgraded to an 1963 Impala for $75. Now on Social Security due to medical issues, and dividing my SSD monthly income by 160 hrs, I now make $4.53/hr. My 1997 Ford van puchased last Nov, cost me $13K. Never made much money, but I have a lot of character!

My first real job was delivering newspapers before school. The year was 1977 and the pay was dependent on how many customers I had and on tips. I can't remember how much money I made. Do kids deliver the paper anymore?

my first real job was $40 a week in 1972, working after school at a dept store as stock/cleanup guy. He paid in cash! I got a Christmas bonus of $25 and I thought it was great!
