Front coil springs?

I was wondering I have to replace my front coil springs on my 79 f-250 2wd, Is there any options when buying springs. Is there heavy duty coils. I'm planning on getting a camper and was just trying to decide what to do?

Any suggestions?

Thanks Joe

And I've been told that older 3/4 ton trucks can carry more than newer 3/4 ton trucks, is there any truth to this?? Just wondering.

Eatonsprings.com cam help you out! they can custom build anything you want, cheap!

As far as the old trucks being able to carry more weight than the new ones (same GVW) No! The GVW is the same! Just out of interest, what would make you think the old ones are stronger?

I'm going to go out on a limb here, and speak for (almost) everyone on this site. We like the old ones because they have "personality", not because they are better! That would be like comparing an Appolo rocket to a Space Suttle!

The new trucks are BORING! Sure they ride smother, get better gas mileage, are more comfortable, etc. BUT! I have put more money into my 74, than a new one would would cost, and will make NO excuses for doing it! I'm sure that most on this site have done the same! I LOVE MY TRUCK! I wouldn't trade it for 2 (free & clear) new ones!

Don't fall into the trap of trying to defend "LOVE"! The new trucks are better! BUT! To HELL with them! Mine will be with me till the day I die!!!! Doe's anyone here disagree with me???

Wow! I was just asking!, I wasn't saying that the old trucks are better!. I was just wondering because someone had told me that and I was just wondering if it was true!. But I guess not! :0) thanks

And yes I too love older trucks for there personality, and I'm glad there slowly starting to give new trucks more personality.
By making them look more like the old one's! )

I use eaton springs on my truck. They have a progressive wound spring that gives a softer ride unloaded and plenty of suspension when loaded. I also really enjoy my old bug. I drive it every day (300 to 400 miles a week) and work on it at least ten hours a week. Besides beer and Winston Cup it is the only hobby I really enjoy. So I can relate to feforever.

Sorry! I didn't mean to get everybody so wound up! I just tire of the old trucks either being put forth as "better", or defending their very existence, when compared to a "new" truck! I guess I'm just more passionate than the rest of you! I keep, and maintain mine, because I love it! Not because I have it out of necessity! I thought that most people on this post felt the same about thier trucks.

To me, it would be like trading my dog for a couple of new ones! The dog isn't human, but it's more than a commodity, It's a friend! So's my truck. But don't mind me! I'm either drunk, or out of my mind. But no matter which, I love my truck!

I guess it's all in your point of view. In days gone by trucks were built to be trucks and WORK! In todays Pepsi generation where everybody is looking first toward fuel economy, then toward ride comfort, creature comforts, and looks, the trucks of today can hardly get out of their own way.
With Detroit (and everybody else) trying to make a buck, they won't produce a stock truck (or anything else for that matter) that will do what it should do without spending 40,000 for a big block or diesel. Has anyone ever heard of the problems associated with the Mazda 5 speed in a half ton and pulling/hauling? What kind of crap is that? Why doesn't Ford produce 1 five speed trans (the ZF) for all of their trucks? It's a money game. I currently have a '93 F250 with a 300 and Mazda 5 speed that I now have to either lay down the bucks for ZF, something like a Gear Vendors underdrive, or retrofit with something else just to get some low end grunt. The engine runs fine, the tranny is fine, and the rear is geared about where it should be - but the combination is crap. I had a 68 with a 240 six and a 4 speed that would work circles around my 93 because I COULD move a load. So in short the older trucks could outwork the new ones hands down, comparably equipped.
