A 2x4 Sub is not exactly a desirable vehicle in today's market, you did not mention cost so I hope you are not going to pay more then $1500 no matter what the condition.
If you need this emissions inspected, make sure it passes first. If this has the TPS in the carb, just the rebuilt carb will cost close to $400
These year GMs are noted for computer problems AND if the carb/emissions/computer is not running correctly it can easily block or clog the cat. converter. Aftermarket ones will not work correctly and you have to go with either refilling them (cough cough) or the expensive three stage one to pass emissions.
Asking price is $2000 but my firm offer would be $1500. They don't do any emissions testing in North Dakota, so if the carb was bad I would probably dump it and go with an aftermarket replacement.
I am looking for a large vehicle like this because I have a band and need to transport a lot of gear. I also like the idea of having a 454 so I would have enough power to pull a trailer if need be. A 4x4 isn't really necessary cuz I will have a lot of weight in the rear of the vehicle.
Thanks for your response!
At anywhere between $1500 and $2000 I think it would be a fairly good deal. A decent running 454 is worth $1000 around where I live. If the body is in good condition, it sounds like a good deal.
Is it a 3/4 ton?
You can go to http://coloradok5.com/forums/index.php to learn a little about Suburbans. CK5 is mostly for 4x4's, but they are a bunch of nice guys who are very knowledgeable on any GM product.
A 3/4 ton would be a lot better than the 1/2 ton because it has bigger brakes, much larger rear axle, and a stronger rear suspension. A lot of 1/2 ton burbs will sag in the rear with no weight at all in them.
If it's all factory, it has to be a 3/4 ton because the 454 wasn't available in the 1/2 ton models in 1984.
