I have a problem with this engine idling I just installed a rebuilt motor in 2 days ago.. it is the H.O engine. we had the engine idling half decent and ran good I just drove it 300 miles and now i cant take my foot off the gas when starting or coming to a stop.. runs beautiful on the highway. does anyone have a suggestion to what could be causing this. I have tried adjusting the idle and the timing is to what i believe to be correct. any help would be appreciated.

Does it matter if the engine is cold or hot? I am assumimg it is a Carb engine?
I would check to see if the choke is the Problem. Lean / rich I am not sure.
also check for Open Vacuum leaks. Power brakes or emissions vacuum lines off ect... That will usually cause the symptoms. You can check for Vac leaks with a can of WD-40, Safer than other things I heard of.
Be sure to check the intake manifold gaskets as well.
I by no means am any expert due to my '84 351w poping and bucking under load (but it idles great). Just a few things to look at.
thanks for the thoughts I will check those out i know that the choke is not the problem neither is the intake leaking but i will check the vacuum.. and no it does not matter if the engine is hot or cold it does it all the time
