F150 Great First truck??
I just got my license and am wondering whther a F150 is a good first truck? I am looking for '97-03 range. Would I be able to Supercharge it for a resonable price and performance, Chevy's seem to haul more *** during this year range, soo... What are insurance costs on F150s, would you recommend a Superduty, what year should I get?

01-up...better heads from what i hear.....i pay 750 per year for my truck.....full coverage....250 deductables....i've also been driving for 11 years with no accidents, exc... as far as one being faster than another.....i'd have to dissagree with the chevy comment....i don't even know what their engin sizes are but a larger Chebby V8 would prolly out performe a 4.6 L like mine but i can't see it out performing a 5.4 L.....supercharging isn't cheap for anyone.....i'd recomend a 5.4 7700 lb auto od......quat cab short bed and any chevy from the same year range won't be running away from you

Just saying that because two people I know have a Ford, Flareside 5,4 Litre, and other has a Chevy Silverado, and the silverado seems to be faster, but regardless I will probably shoot for a F-150, even maybe a crew cab to stand out a little more. MSD, Exhaust, Throttle Body, Air Intake, Air Filter, SparkPlug wires, other than those, what do you expect will give it a little bit more fuel milage and performance?

Just wondering but have you ever considered getting a lightning? They are already supercharged, and since they are older the plate costs will be cheaper.
Supercharging something that otherwise isn't will cost less for insurance because they don't KNOW its supercharged. However, doing it yourself, a supercharger kit can run up between $3000-5000. (help me if I'm wrong on that). I think its better to spend less money and get a lightning.
Older car=less insurance (most of the time), less plate costs.
I personally think the older ones look better anyway (not so rounded off). The crew cabs started in F-150's in 2001. IMHO they look stupid with those 5 1/2 foot beds lol but to each his own. i think 06 the 6 1/2 footers came along in the 1/2 ton screws.
Besides, the older ones have the 351W
It seems like your getting a truck for speed, not work- but think about if you are/aren't going to be using it like it was meant to me.
I'l post more pros and cons later if I get the chance. Bedtime.

Oh, I am getting a truck because I live in the city, but I like to do outdoor stuff like dirt bikes.
"i think 06 the 6 1/2 footers came along in the 1/2 ton screws.
Besides, the older ones have the 351W " I'm a little lost here.
I am not getting the truck for speed, but I want it to have a little bit more power, I don't want to get a lightning because it is not an Extended cab or a CrewCab, something that would be desired.

It shouldnt be too hard to find. F-150s are pretty common. I'll tell you one thing, the ONLY way I would get rid of my F-150 would be to move up to an F-250 or bigger.
I used to have a Ranger and while the Ranger was nice, there is no way you could ever get me to go to anything smaller than a 1/2 ton truck.
