Welcome to FTE
I see this is your 1st post. Several of us here are running 385 series enginres and some neat other stuff in our Slick 60s trucks. anyway we'll see what we can do.

'65 through '79 4X2 [2wd] F Series frames are virtually the same, model & wheelbase, for model & wheelbase. There are slight differences, but not in engine bays.
Your 385 series engine will bolt in to your 66 using the brackets, stands & insulators from your 76.

It takes a front sump pan, If you've a truck pan you're OK butif you have a P-car pan add a drain plug to back of sump because side located P-Car drains end up over engine X-Member. Then changing oil becomes a form of torture & frustration.

Headers from a '76-'79 F100-150-250 & 350 will all fit And work.

I'd change the power steering box and front brakes to a later P/S box say 73 & later beccause you can't find a pump for the old style (68 & earlier boxes) that will fit a 385 series engine. . . But you can find the saginaw style slippers and the 73-up boxes are plentiful still.

I'd also go to a larger fuel feed line that skinny 66 line is kinda small for a Big Block like 385 series are.

I would suggest a set of 73-later front P/D/Brakes also.

I have 79 F-150 Trailer Special PDB front brakes on mine. But I run straight line races occassionally and I like to be able to shut it down. My 385 is a slightly massaged D1VE 460 but I'm using a pro built C-5 with a 351M/400 bell ring.

I don't know about the 429 output but I do know OEM 28 spline axles twist and can break with my 460 meaning a hassle if a stub keeps you from pulling the chunk out. . . I have been running 31 spline axles and they're good so far. I also am running a four pinion differential carrier, not a traction lok or a limited slip.

I hope this is of some help you

No! What I'm saying is 66 F Series doesn't stop well enough for my liking & a good running 429 the light weight 66 will sprint up into big numbers in a hurry. It's stopping in a controlled stop, and being able to steer it with all the loading during stopping that I reccommend P/S and P/D front discs. That's what we run now in the 1st century of this 2nd Millennium [Y2K]. 66s were built in the last century of the first the 1st Millennium [Y1K]. That was nearly 1/2 a century ago. Wait until you see what it drives & rides like before you slam it. I'm in the 12.60s @ over 120 mph & I really like forged I beam strength & huge front disc set up.

You can steer it fine with a manual strg box. But if you've a P/S box now, any pump you can put on a 385 won't make req'd PSI for that early style box. It will struggle & chatter when you need / want it the most.
