First of all I'd like to thank everyone for posting here, I've had my truck a little over two years and have been able to solve all my issues just by searching past threads. I do have two things that aren't really problems, just wondering if anyone else has encountered them.
1. My glove box gets pretty warm, doesnt seem to matter if I use the heater or not. I try not to keep temperature sensitive stuff in there though.
2. My rear u-joint doesn't fit the yoke on the rear diff. tightly. When moving about 20 mph or slower it makes a tap, tap, tap noise. If I grease it real good it will go away for about a day. I bought a new u-joint and it fits the same. I also replaced the straps.
The heater core is probably right next to the glove box and it's always on. Some guys install a water cut-off valve (like from the old days) and that will keep it cooler there.
I'd really look into that rear yoke and get it fixed. Chances are you'll probably wear out the u-joint quicker then normal if it can move around. If you R & R the yoke, use a torque wrench and see what the present torque is on the nut (like you're tightening it) and install the other one to that value.
Can you feel any play in the yoke? Any vibrations?
There is no vibration, if it wasnt for that little noise at slow speed I probably wouldn't even know about it. The u-joint cup diameter is correct it just seems like it needs to be about 0.030 - 0.060 (just a guess) wider to fit the yoke. When it stops raining on my day off I'll get my micrometer and measure the joint and the yoke and see exactly what the difference is.
Thanks again.
