55
Very new at the 55 so any info would be greatly appreciated.
If you are new to the '53-'56 Ford F-100 series pickups, the best thing to do would be to go to your local book store, Barnes and Noble, Borders, B-Dalton, Hastings.....wherever and buy a magazine or two. There is Custom and Classic Trucks, and Classic Truckin. They are loaded with vendors in there for these trucks. Also, Rod and Custom, and Street Rodder have alot of vendors in them too.Welcome to FTE! Don't be a stranger there are a lot of guys on here that have a ton of knowledge to help you along with your build
If you haven't torn your 55 apart yet, might I suggest that you just rebuild the stock suspension and drive it for a while. The reason I say that, aside from the huge expense you're contemplating, is that many here report that when properly rebuilt, the stock suspension is very adequate and rides quite well. It is easy to lower the truck by just taking some leafs out of the stock spring packs and/or put6ting drop spindles and shackles on it. Power steering is also an easy add-on. Overall, you could saves thousands by contemplating this way to go and not sacrifice much in the ride/handling department.
There are differing views on bagging these Effies. I personally like the idea, though I haven't done it. My buddies claim that it can be done and perform well. Others here don't share that opinion and would never do it, preferring (perhaps) a coilover setup front and rear.
Of course, if the truck is apart and your heart is set on doing the suspension mods you mention, there are some excellent reference threads on those topics. See below. It is the link to the "Reference Threads" sticky from the top of the forum page. You'll find info on front suspension, rear suspension, etc. Check "Earl's World" for a great list of vendors. (Earl is the 48-60 forum moderator - he'll be along directly).
