I have recently noticed that my 86' f-150 (351w HO, 3 speed auto) will not drop down into 2nd gear when the gas pedal is put to the floor when passing on the highway.I have no idea where to start looking, my Haynes manual is no help. Could it be a vaccum or a linkage problem? Hopefully it is not a tranny problem!! Any ideas Guys?...

Sounds like either a leaking vacuum line going to the modulator or a bad modulator.

From what speed? If it's from 55 it may or may not downshift depending on RPMS.
