PS line problems
any water in with steering fluid, will freeze and break lines, fittings and pumps/steering units
might also try a thinner fluid for winter cold, maybe synthetic ATF or even a low viscosity 0w grade straight hydralic oil which will work well in a power steering system...look for a PAO based synthetic....they absorb far less water than ester based synthetics
if you have any jet aircraft maintenance contacts out at that airfield, they may be able to supply you with a couple liters of their special high altitude extreme cold temp hydralic fluid, the stuff from the hydralic landing gear on a Sukhoi SU-47 Berkot would be perfect, guarenteed to work at -100d C
sorry to hear about your Aero pwr steering blowing up and having to take the bus....i used to commute to a job in the city daily....took the bus in the winter time to get away from the crazy yuppie women their Honda Accords doing 70 mph on the snow and ice using the rear view mirror to do their makeup driving with their elbows on the wheel and a steaming hot latte between their legs....

You can see my solution: the ring is on the metal connector of the hose. It is welded with the nut and it fixates connector well.
The snow is still so deep here, may be hose was damaged by it.
There are 2 snapshots made from my van in one suburb of Lugansk.
Later I will draw a picture of modified conector!

i was up in snow last Sunday, pushing 6 inches of the white stuff with the front bumper of the AWD at 2000 ft 650M elevation in the Cascade range mountains.
that Aero really digs with the good weight distribution and lockup transfer case.
had packed snow almost up to spark plugs
more snow forcast for this week
nice job on the ps hi pressure line from the pump.
test drove a new Freighliner Sprinter van, no AWD but that Mercedes diesel is tremendous engine, 25 mpg and turbo power...may be time to retire the old Aero.
