When i changed mine out, my thermostat leaked at first. I didn't prep the o-ring before i put it in with anti-freeze. I tightened to bolts one good time and drove it too work. Checked it out when i got there and it wasn't leaking and hasn't leaked since. I figured the moisture probably softened the o-ring and it made a good seat.

I had the leaking thermostat problem when I changed mine out. I used some faucet grease on the o-ring to help it not get bound up when clamping down, and some flexible form-a-gasket on the housing's mating surfaces. That solved my leaks.
