*star crack on winshield*

i have a star crack on my 71 sport custom. do i take a glass cutter on the perpendicular to stop it? hope knows how to get a new one.. thanks mates.

hiker, I have never heard of using a glass cutter. It only scores the finish on the glass to assist in breaking.

There are companies like Bullseye that can repair the star, although I haven't heard much about them lately.

Here in colorado (land of cracked windsheilds) we just let them live for a year or three and eventually replace the glass. If you are lucky and live in a state like South Carolina, you can have your windsheild replaced free at any time, the insurance covers it all. I replaced the $160 windsheild on my 1974 VW Beetle this way....the Glass shop's bill to State Farm for the 30 min service - $898.00!

Gotta love red tape and government programs!

Call a couple independent glass shops. I had a star crack fixed for $40.00. It's been 4 months nad no sign of it spreading although it did not completely disappear.
