Question 91 explorer battery light is on

i hope you guys can help:::: my 91 explorer would not start, had the battery tested and it was bad. bought a new battery and installed it. started my truck and now the battery light stays on, does anyone know why? and how to get it to go off.

this is an indicator that you either have a bad cable from the battery to the alternator or the alternator has died.
At 2000RPM you should read 14.5VDC across the battery. Failing this, test from the main lug on the alternator to ground, 14.5VDC indicates the alternator is good.
If there is a good reading at the alternator and not at the battery, check the +cable for rot/blown fusible link (seem to remember that the pos terminal has 2 wires, the smaller is the main feed for the alternator, the larger is the feed for the starter) and make sure you have a good ground.

Everything Aquanaut20 said (except maybe some of the wire colors) and also check fuse # 12, 15Amp in the power distribution box . Most of the time this ends up being the alternator. Here's a diagram to see the wires he spoke of.
