As I understand it, the Air Force gives a version of this test to Pilots in training. They expect you to last 22 seconds or better. Give it a try. It's not easy. First try, I lasted 16 seconds. My best yet is 23 seconds, but don't ask how many tries it took. In the Air force you only get one try!
dont feel bad. I have seen this link about 4 times in the last 2 months, and i have played it multiple times. So far, my best is about 15 seconds...WITH practice.
After about 20 tries, I made it to 5 seconds. Most of my attempts are under a second. I've always sucked at, and hated, video games. Way back in the 'Asteroid' days, I just fed the machine quarters.
Lookit - I noticed right off the bat that if you pull the red square to the bottom on the first pass the blue blocks go right past it. Next thought was follow the small blue block, and always return to the middle.
Next idea was that the white space was not necessarily a good place to be, but in tracking the other blocks I could see where the place they crossed at was a reasonable target after they went by...
Two dozen strategies later I realised that it progressively speeds up, and there is probably no actual way to beat the game.
What is most interesting to me personally is that when the arcade game "Hogans Alley" came out, I ran it up over a million by establishing a grip I could use without having to use the sights on the little plastic gun. I was always watching the whole screen with periferal vision...
Same thing works here -
Use periferal vision to watch the red block, and track the blue blocks with primary vision...
You know what else is interesting? The whole game is written in javascript, meaning that there is no 'hidden' applet that runs it from behind the scenes.
If you select 'view source' and save it as a script to your web page goodies files you can play with it all day long offline, or add it to your own pages!
Simplest is to copy and save it as 'webpage complete', and edit it later.
