Just thought I would warn anybody thinking of doing the same stupid "trick" I pulled this week.
My optima battery is mounted under the cab and only has about 3/8" clearance from the top post to the floor of the cab. I am using the side posts for my cable connections.
I woke Monday morning with the "brainstorm" to cut approx. 3/8" from the pos. terminal to give me a little safety margin on clearance from the cab floor.
Bad idea! It ruined the battery. It seems as though there is an inner core that is bonded someway to the outer lead on the post, and cutting it destroyed that bond.
I went and bought a new battery, and chalked it up to lesson learned. I"ve left the insulated cap on the upper posts and hope it offers enough protection.
Man, I hate learning lessons the hard way! thanks for the info. Ihavent decided where to put my battery yet but I will probably go for the optima when I get it set up.
