I need some help from the experts here. My wifes 2003 focus had the egr tube come loose at the flange and it sounds like crap. I took it to the local dealer and I asked him if that was covered under the 100K mile emissions equipment warranty. He told me that only Cats and the PCM ( I think) were the only things covered under that warranty. I asked him it they have had alot of failures of EGR tubes he said yes, it is usually caused by heat???? Ok,is it just me or is something connected to the exhaust manifold going to have to deal with HEAT!!!! If anyone could help me out with some info here, I would truely appreciate it. It is in the shop now as I know it needs to be fixed since my wife and daughter ride in it everyday and exhaust gasses are nothing to play with. The car only has 40K miles on it, no salt or anything here in the warm southeast. It did not even look rusty or corroded, looks like it just broke off. Thanks, Dan
The EGR tube is connected to the exhaust. So heat is a factor. What I would do is, talk to the service mgr and the general mgr of the dealership. You MAY be able to get a break on the parts/labor. Or try another dealer in your area. Ford is being a real pain on the warranty crap.
Well, $183.03 later the EGR tube is replaced. $63 of that was parts. I asked them again about the emmissions warranty and they said it was not covered. I now know why I haven't taken a vehicle to the dealer for service in many years. I don't mind working on my old 86 f-150 but the other two have so much computer and electronic crap under the hood, it really is more than I want to take on. I will change the oil and filter and air filter and other minor stuff but I am going to have to find a good mechanic that is cheaper than the dealer. Thanks for the input guys. Dan
