Just a quick question, does running either an electrical or a mechanical fuel pump make any difference at all in fuel economy? that is assuming everything is kept the same and its driven the same. also, are there any differences in performance?
I run a electric pump but it's because it was in the truck when I bought it and my new mechanical fuel pump couldn't deliver enough fuel to the carb at high RPM, and the electric can.
If the fuel pump did effect the fuel economy then something is broken. A fuel pumps only job is to keep the float bowl full. It's the carb that sucks it out.
To quote my dad "delivering fuel to the carb has all the complexity of a toilet"
haha...thats a good quote that ill have to remember. thats how i thought it worked but im just making sure. by the way...has anyone out there had problems with electrical pumps going out constantly? ive gone through 4 of them in the past year and a half. maybe ive just coincidentaly had lemons...i always mount them as close to the tank as possible, below the level of the tank, and with a filter before it. anyway, i finally just got a mechanical one and had no problems so far. well thanks for the help.
I have a electric pump, the only way to go if you ask me. It was the only thing that would keep my carter AFB from vapor locking. I have a red holley electric pump. The first one lasted 3 years, not bad for an electric pump.
you might think about removing that filter on the suction side of your fuel pump electric pumps are made to push fuel not pull it that is why they want you to put it close to the tank as possible what.
what is failing on your pumps valves or elect.
if it is valves suction is the problem.
if it is electric you might have a grounding problem or poower supply problem.
I bought summits HP fuel pump kit/gauge and its the noisiest thing next to a whiny P/S pump....but it does a good job, so its stays
**HINT** if your electric fuel pump is too noisy , cut up as thick mouse pad into 4-6 even squares and make a sandwich out of them, then make two holes for the mounting bolts , and put the "sandwich" between the pump bracket and the frame... the rubber mouse pad isolates the resonating sound from the truck bed and frame
