hey all, have a 79 400 with 650cfm edlebrock carb and intake.....have 129000 on the motor and it was rebuilt at 113000.......after i replaced the valve covers i noticed a tick coming from the drivers side of the motor....Took the one off and i couldn't see anything wrong at all, it was fine before i replaced them now its just annoying me haha.....any suggestions would be awsome...im stumped..change oil every 1700 to 2000 miles...
Clarification please: Are you saying it was OK b4 you replaced the valve covers and then after you replaced the valve covers it is making a noise? Did you replace the valve covers with a different type not just remove and replace the same valve covers? Did you use the same size and type of valve cover gaskets?
Yea the valve covers were from a 351M so they fit right up.....There was no noise BEFORE i changed them, but after i started it up there just was a little bit of a tick that wasn't there before......Valve lashes look alright, i mean it could just be time to change the valvetrain and whatnot.....kept lookin for a problem i just dont see anything wrong.....everythin is torqued down to spec so im stumped.....
well one thing led to another and i ended up pulling the whole motor out and junkin the truck, got the whole topend apart, just going to replace it, everything looked fine when it was sittin in the motor....being out and on a bench is another story, had 2 springs that broke when i took them off, and a cracked bolt......wasn't expecting it but now i know why it was ticking....it will be awhile befoe the ole 400 will be running again...no money to fix it.....thanx for the advice!
