I Just Got A 2001 X (7.3 Diesel) And I Love It But..... I Put A Superchips Tuner On It And Boy Is It Faster But IM Scared To Death Of Hurting My Motor,Trans And Turbo. I Called Superchips And They Said They Would Not Sell Something That Would Hurt My Vehicle. But I Have Been Reading On Here That I Need Gauges. I Really Don't Want To Put Gauges On.....I'm Putting A Volant Air System On To Help With Air Flow. All I Plan On Doing Is The Tuner And The Air System Will I Be Ok Or Is Something Going To Blow Up??? If Blowing Up Is The Case I Will Return Everything. Just Looking For A Little More Horse Which The Tuner Has Given Me And Few Xtra Miles To Gallon. Thanks To Who Ever Responds!!!!!!!

Well, as the old addage goes, "if you want to play, you got to pay". With more horsepower comes more heat. It is foolish not to install gauges if you running more than stock settings. Of course they will tell you that the tuner won't hurt the engine, the tuner is just a device, it is how you use that extra power that may hurt you. If you run high horsepower settings with higher than normal EGT's and boost you will eventually damage something. This is just common sense. It is your truck, do what you want. But with the cost of these engines and the cost of the parts that go into them, you are asking for trouble down the road if you don't monitor what is going on. You may get away without gauges on the lowest HP setting but you are still taking of risk. The price gauges is nothing compared to cooking a turbo.
I say get the gauges also.Heck they even look cool as all get out.
Also instead of the expensive voolant air system, I would just put on the "kwik" filter. I fyou search the forum you will find the low down on it. I also suggest a muffler delete pipe or free flow muffler, however it is not necessary.
Yep, get some gauges and a 4" exhaust or at least a high flow muffler or delete pipe. Now that I have my chip I can flip between stock and the performance tunes, the difference is amazing! Keep the tuner and spend a few more bucks on the gauges! Have fun!
Edit: One more thing, this is the fastest vehicle I've ever owned. Pretty cool it's a huge SUV!
