Hey fellas. First off, sorry if this is in the wrong forum and whatnot. Sitting in class, and don't have the time right now to look through everything. Currently I drive an 01 Jetta. My father is thinking about buying himself a new truck and giving me his 2000 or 2001 Expedition for company use. I think it has about 160k on the odo, and most of it is highway miles. On startup it does smoke a lil out the exhaust and it looks whiteish. I am wondering, if it's possible to rebuild a motor and get more mileage out of it since I will have it for about 1-2 years. I will also plan on doing slight mods to it (exhaust, audio, maybe some other motor work). Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Basically what i'm looking for is what should I do with this 160k motor? Rebuild, or just drive it like it is? It's never been dogged out, but prolly will be by me a bit.
I would make sure your Dad has kept up on routine and preventative maintenance. If so I wouldn't worry about it, it will probably last a while longer.
If he hasn't or doesn't know if it's up to date on maint. then I would change all the filters, plugs and fluids and you should be good to go.
P.S. there are people on here with 200K-400K on their motors and still going strong. 160K is that all that high these days...
I know he's kept up with it. Sometimes it would be longer than 3k miles, but that's cause we usually work about 9-10 hour days, and by the time we are done, everything is closed. I'm just afraid that if I do end up keeping it for 2+ years, I may want to do engine mods to it, and I don't want this engine to go kaput on me. It does have a brand new transmission on it. About 8-9 months old. 10k miles maybe??
