yesterday i installed an instrument cluster from a 1980 Bronco in my 1980 F150. i wanted it because it has a factory tach in it. well, after installation all of the gauges worked but not the tach. so, my question is, can there be a problem with the coil or the line feeding the tach. a green wire, from the (Tach) side of the coil runs up to the Duraspark box on the fender. A green line leaves the Duraspark and ties into a wiring harness leading to the dash. I should also mention that i tied an aftermarket cruise control system to that same green wire. the cruise control system worked for a period of time, but eventually crashed on me. again, could it be possible that the coil is bad or the green line from the coil to the tach the problem?
any help here would be great as i really want to see what this 300 six is turning. i've made some major modifications to the motor and i'd like to see if i can run it up past the 6000 rpms showing on the factory tach.
I would disconnect your cruise control wire and see it that is causing the problem. My pickup's tach is inconsistant, it works, it doens't, it works....usually, it doesn't work when it is cold, but once you drive a ways, it pops up and works fine.
