I have ordered an '06 Lariat crew cab 4 1/2 weeks ago. I was wondering if Ford had an overhead DVD player as an accessory for these trucks? I have looked through the catalog quickly, and didn't see anything. This vehicle will be my daily driver through the week, but on weekends we travel pulling our trailer, and the kids would like to have something to watch on the longer rides (Mom and dad appreciate this also).
Dogger: I bought an 06 Lariet Crew back in September. The dealership I bought from had an accessory store on the premise. They called it the Toy Store. It actually was a part of their sales routine and part of the "tour". I'm not aware of Ford having a DVD accessory but this Toy Store had several to choose from. Since I was planning on putting one in anyway, I went ahead and bought one (8.5 inch, drop down monitor, Audiovox brand). They also had a neat little trim ring to go around the player that matched the color of my interior and made it look factory. If your dealership doesn't have something similar, you can get one at Best Buy, Circuit City, or your choice of electronics vendors. Personnally, it's one of the best options I've added to the ride. Don't regret it at all.
the dealer I bought from has an accessory shop they deal with. I had an overhead video system put in my 05 cc and it's nice, because it keeps the kids quiet!
Thanks for the info guys. The place I am purchasing the vehicle from does not have an accessory department as you describe, but I have seen other dealerships with this type of thing. My other option is to either go to a best buy, etc, or a stereo shop that do this. Currently we have a portable unit, but I would like something a little more permanent. I had seen some other units available as accessories for the F-150 from Ford, and was wondering if this was something I could purchase/install, but for the price, I could probably get a better unit for less from somewhere other than Ford.
My current vehicle is a '99 superduty extended cab, and I am tired of the kids constantly kicking the back of the seats, therefore it was a good excuse to move up to a crew cab with a diesel.
The cost was about $500. That was done as a favor through my salesman. My family and I buy alot of vehicles from the guy. This particular system they normally sell for about $800-900 installed (through the dealer). It is the same system ford installs inmany of their vehicles. This was installed in Aug of 04. Came with 2 sets of headphones and a fm modulator.
JRM: My cost was $1100 installed (Sep 05 price). A little pricey but mine came with three wireless head phones, has an FM modulator option, has over the air TV capability, can play MP3s/CDs/DVDs, and I can hook up a video game system (playstation, etc) if I desire. I looked at Best Buy around the same time and their systems ranged from about $650 to $1200 installed depending on what type of system you purchased.
All I can say is that I haven't heard "are we there yet" since the install. That in itself is priceless.
Just an FYI, I bought two portable dvd/vhs players with detachable screens that can be hung on the back seats. Since my two boys can never agree on anything, this way they can watch whatever they want. Each one was about $100.00, and they can play their playstations on them. Possible option if you didn't want to spend alot of $$!
