Transfer Case
00 Nav 4x4 with 71K on the clock---the maintenance manual says to change the Dexron in the transfer case at 60k even under towing conditions---I tow a boat most everyweekend in the summer. I changed it at 50k and it smelled bad and was very brown. I was surprised as I was still under the recommended change interval. So since Dexron is cheap---I just changed it at 71k, 2yrs since I changed it the first time. This time the fluid smells fine but is distinctly off color toward the brown side but not as bad as it was at 50k. I was very surprised at the color change after only 2yr and 20K.
Anyone know if this is normal? Guess I'm going to put it on my maintenance list for every 20K. Comments?
