desert cooler radiator

Called desert cooler, super cool and a number of other names. They are twice the radiator as a regular 3 core. They're several inches taller and hold atleast an extra gallon of coolant. You have to run a 4x4 core support to install one in a 2wd truck because of thier size. They aren't very common and shrouds for them are virtually impossible to find. The radiator looks like someone shoved a semi truck radiator in a pickup when you pop the hood. Most commonly in 73-79 f-350 and up trucks and many 390 and 460 extended cab f-250 camper special trucks.

I can't say enough good about my 4 row radiator. I welded up adaptors too fit the standard core support and now when I pull a load of hay the temperature guage never moves. It used to be that if the temperature was much over 100 the guage would be pushing the top of the range. Well worth the slight extra cost and work. I do agree that I have had several people say that it looked like I had grafted the radiator from a K-W into the truck.

the 4 row's work well.
my iron headed/intaked 390 does not overheat sitting in traffic with 120*F temps, and pavement temps hot enough to litterally burn your feet.
My stock schroud bolted on fine (with fan removed), but the tranny cooler was a little work.
Dunno how much they are asking for a "desert cooler" but I got a new 4 row from www.radiator.com for less than $200...

ford390gashog, NO, they are not 4 row radiators, they are only 3 row. They made the standard radiators in 4 row, but not the super cool. The super cool core support is the exact same as the 4x4 support. The 4x4 support was used because the standard core support will not allow the radiator to hang down below the tops of the frame rails. I've seen plenty of factory AC big block trucks that had the standard radiator. Don't think AC was a factor, it was the GVW of the truck.
