A person who claimed to work in the automotive industry(??) told my brother that if you wait to buy an extended warranty until just before the factory one runs out on a new vehicle, that it will be cheaper, and you'll get longer coverage. The reason I'm asking is that my new truck is in(2006 SD), and I'm going to pick it up friday and was planning on getting fords extended warranty. Should I wait??? Any info anyone has on this would be great, since I have not a clue on buying extended warranties on vehicles that are not new!!!
The dealership I worked out had a price book. It showed the vehicles and prices for coverages available and mileage. Your dealer probably has something similar. You could look and see what it would cost now and what the same would cost in three years. I bet it will be cheaper now, but can't say for sure. Talk to your salesman. I'm sure someone here can help you more. good luck
97, call Ford Warranty and ask them straight up. When I bought my '96, I did not buy the extended warranty at that time because the price was something like $1,700.00 for what I wanted. About two months after buying the truck, Ford Warranty contacted me by mail and offered just what I wanted for about $800.00.
price out the warranty you want and enter your email address... and wait...don't go through with the purchase just yet...
usually within a few minutes your get a email with a coupon code for money off. The most I have seen so far is $200 off what their price is online...
I will be buying a 5 year 100,000 miles warranty for my F150 within the next couple weeks... I believe the last time I looked they had that for roughly $1,450 with the $100 deductible.....
Seriously, no dealership anywhere on the Earth came close to that "FORD" warranty price.....
I have always been concerned about the extended warranty...they say they are selling a 100,000 mile warranty, but it starts at 0 miles..
Since the vehicle has a 36000 mile warranty, the extended warranty is really on for 64000 miles....
At $1400 for 100,000 miles, that's $0.014 per mile
For 64000 miles, it jumps to $0.022 per mile...that is a 66% increase in real cost.
I only bought an extended warranty ONE time in my life..from Warranty Gold...cost $1100 and they went out of business...my fault, I should have bought it from Ford.
