Ok so I have a 94 f-150, 4.9 300. I started the truck this morning and it was pissing anti-freeze from the passenger side by the tire. So i look and see that the lower tranny cooler line is leaking. IT was the actual radiator. So i replace that and all is installed and bam it still leaks. try another radiator and it still leaks. Only problem is its leaking like a siv on the same side, but I cant see the leak. I cant see any coolant coming from the upper radiator hose, tranny lines or from the radiator. The bottom radiator hose also I cant see any leaks. HELP!!! Could the only othe place be the bottom radiator hose?
My guess is heater core related.
A leak that is spotted on the pass. side by the tire is likely to be heater core to hose.
I changed the entire cooling system about two years ago on my 92 4.9L. I kept getting small puddles of a-freeze in just about the same spot as the air conditioner condensate (water) falls. I kept tightening the heater core clamps and eventually stopped the leak.
Heater cores are metal, the tube may have a stress fracture where it connects to the rubber hose.
Stick your face down in the area below the glove box and sniff for the sweet smell of coolant, feel the floor and make sure it is dry.
The tranny lines have oil running thru them, not coolant, to rule that out.
Worse case scenario..take a good look at your engine block and head, there is a coolant temp sensor in the back of the engine, under cylinder 6 near where the block and head are joined. Also, the 4.9L head gaskets are known to fail once in a while.
PS/ (should have asked first)..is the coolant in front or behind the tire?
PS#2/ Check the water pump weep hole also, your w-pump may have a blown seal, this allows coolant to escape from a 1/8 inch diameter hole at the bottom of the w-pump housing
It was dark and i didnt plug in the heater core line >< IM SUCH A *******!!! Although there is a small leak at the water pump. although minor, i will take care of it.
