whats the average cost of a full tranny flush using the machine to pump out the converter on a e4od ? i was quaoted 180.00
The converter has a drain plug on it. Once a year or so I drop my pan, change my filter and in the process I drain the torque converter to make sure I get all the old fluid out. It takes me like 15 or 16 quarts of Mobil 1 ATF to refill it.
On the other hand, if you want to "flush" your E4OD......just disconnect the tranny line where it goes into the radiator, and attach a clear length of tubing. Run the clear tubing into a drain pan or bucket, and put a funnel into the trans dip stick tube. Now you will need a helper.....have the other person turn the engine over as you are adding fresh ATF through the dip stick tube, the old stuff is getting pumped into the drain bucket by the pump in the trans. Do this until you have run about 15qut of fresh ATF through and you can see the fresh fluid getting pumped out through the clear tube.
On my Bronco with its E4OD though.......I have no problems dropping the pan changing the filter and draining the TC. Clean the magnet off install a new CORK gasket (I only use OEM Motorcraft parts for a trans service), and fill her up!
I recommend you do this yourself just as stated above. Drain the converter and add 14 quarts of fluid. Flushing is a waste of money, since all you wnat to make sure is that you get ALL the fluid changed. Cost is under $30 if you shop for fluid.
