I am looking for two things for my 1978 F-250 longbed;
one: a 78 bed, preferably with the utility cabinets on each side.
Anyone know where i could find any kind of 78 bed????
and
two: a moon or sun visor that would fit my truck, i've found them at JC Whitney but i have heard they dont fit my particular truck. thanks
Do you mean a standard bed? Or an after market one. I do not think Ford made a standard bed with the tool boxs on both sides. It just came on the right side. I have a Lund visor on mine and it fits great. And if you go to my gallery you can see both the visor and the tool box on the bed. If you do a search on ebay they have both on there all the time. Just type in 79 ford and you will see alot of neat stuff. But you have to watch for awhile to get what you want. Erv
This particular bed came stock with some F-series in 1978, according to someone who owns one. This isnt the type of bed with a tool box behind the back window, the tool compartments are actually in the bed walls between where the bed meets the cab and the rear wheel well, and accessed through doors on the exterior sides of the bed. They are very low profile, which is why i am interested, i have no idea what they are called or where to get any kind of new bed for that matter. (the bed on my 78 now is from a 1989 f series)
Utility beds of many types were installed on cab chassis trucks by many aftermarket vendors. Some of them can be mounted on many different years of trucks. Look around in parking lots for the type of bed you want. Check for a label on the bed and then contact the company shown. They either manufactured the bed or installed it. Either way you will be able to locate a bed.

I answered your question.
It's called a: Contractor Box.
I think he's talking about the box off of a camper special. Thay have tool boxes built right into the side of a regular looking pickup bed. However, The camper specials had a different wheel base. The rear axle was placed further back. I don't believe it would work on a regular model.
Just like mil1on said, its called a contractors box, and they were only put on the curbside (right side) of the bed....ill see if i can dig up a pic of my friends truck that has one, it is a 79 F-250 supercab longbed.....
Here is the pic, kinda hard to see but its there.....it was taken at one of our oklahoma chapter meets....
Thanks 1877/f250. Still a work in progess. I have been working on it for 3 years and haveing a great time with it. It is my daily driver so I have not tryed to make it a show truck. Just want to make it nice. Erv
I thought it was only on a CS too, but his isnt a CS, its just loaded with options like dual batteries, dual tanks, a/c, 4 core radiator, a cool hitch setup that looks stock but im not for sure, the contractors box, clearance lights, tilt column, and a locking inside hood release....im sure im missing a couple, but it just shows that anything is possible...
well as i said, the truck i saw with my own two eyes, had no identification on the bed at all, the compartments were on both drivers and passangers side, there was no different wheel base, it was a standard long bed, and the owner said as far as he knows some 78s came with this option out of the factory.
Also, thanks for the help guys, i believe i have found a couple good sources, and by the way, sweet truck Ervin!!
