I was installing a new heater core last evening in my '68 and while disassembling the underdash components I came across a "springlike" (heating element?) that attaches to the blower motor/heater core housing. It has a 3 or 4 pronged wire harness plug attached to it that runs up under the dash (I think to the heater controls). What is this part? I tried to find a comparable piece in the catalogues, but they show just about every other underdash component except this one. Can anybody tell me what this part is and what it does.

Thanks.

Buzzard, it sounds like you’re describing the resistor block that drops the voltage for the slower blower speeds.

Yes, this is the resistor for the blower motor. And when I was
rigging one up in my 53 F100 I found out why they mount it in the
airstream. That thing gets RED HOT!
