I purchased a 2004 FX 4x4, 5.4 3 valve. I didn't buy it for the gas mileage as I tow a large boat, atv and trailer for hunting, etc. I use my truck for what it was built for. I am wondering about a few things, can anyone tell me about the use of one of the programmers, are they worth the money, I live in northern ontario Canada. I get real bad mileage in the cold weather 8 - 9 miles per gallon. The best I have done in the summer is 18 miles per gallon. I run the stock goodyear 18" tires, stock exhaust, but have installed a K & N air filter in the stock air intake box and snorkel. I also have have a cab high cap on the box, and it is an extended cab with the rearswinging rear doors. I drive fairly conservative and don't get my foot into it unless needed to when trailering. Most of my driving is city highway combined with about 80 % highway, truck alone. The thing that bothers me is the highway miles, I have a friend with the the same truck with a tonneau cover and he can get 20 - 23 miles per gallon on the highway, he also has the K & N air filter and stock 17 " tires. I have also contemplated getting a cat back gibson exhaust, and maybe a cold air induction system, are there any real benefits to those? I have had success with Sunoco 94 octane fuel getting 2-3 more miles per gallon, but at a price of course! Thanks for any info yuou can give. Jim Warren
Yer going to get the standard "welcome reply" soon...but hello and welcome anyway!

I personaly insted of going with a hand held tuner would go with a custom pcm tune. While I wont post a link on the board due to the fact that Motorhaven sells a hand held tuner, if you pm me I will send you the link.
Now the link that I have is not the same tuner that did my Chevy, but one that is just as well respected, and unlike the tuner that I used also handels other brands.
