I took out my I6 and put a 351W in my 78. Here's my problem. I retained the 3spd column shifter and the old clutch linkage. On the I6 there's a bolt with a plasic O ring on it that screws into the block This bolt supports the clutch equalizer bar. unfortunately, there is no place to screw this bolt into the Winsor. I've looked at a couple 302's and they have the hole where this bolt will go. Is there some kind of bracket I need? If not, what the heck can I do short of changing to an Automatic?
I have a 302 w/ a manual transmission in my 79 F150. I also have a Haynes manual covering 73-79 F's and Broncos. Now the book identifies the 302 as having a unique bracket w/ that inner Z-bar bushing that you are looking for. I'm thinking that they didn't include the 351W because they didn't come in F 100-350s back in the 73-79 timeframe. I'm unclear as whether 351W have ever had a manual stock behind them from Ford. I saw a post in the newer truck section that mentioned that all the 351W are backed by automatics? My Haynes manual has a couple of references to the 351W and I've been told that some pre 78 Broncos had a 351W option. Anyway, the bracket bolts to two driverside bellhousing bolt holes. I would think since the 351W has the same bellhousing, that you could use a bracket from the 302. BTW, I just pulled a 390 w/ manual out of another truck I have, and it has a small bracket w/ that bushing bolted to the block, not the bellhouseing like the 302.
I talked to the local ford dealer and they list a bracket for a manual out of an 80 van. Showed me the picture with the bracket attaching to the two holes in the bell housing like you said. Unfortunately, my bell housing only has one hole. Hope it will be enough. Interestingly I saw a van with a 351W at the bone yard that has the hole in the block to mout the equalizer bar. Dont know why mine would be different.
I just got a new crate 302 to replace the existing 302 and I ran into the same problem. also looking through the Haynes manual I found a bracket that uses the bell housing to engine bolt holes however it says it is for 302 only but it still may work if that is any help/
They ran the manual clutch thru 83 (I think). You might try looking at an early 80s truck with a 351 and manual. Whether you have a T18 or 435 doesn't matter. I say that because most of the 80s were T18s and 70s 435s
