I have an 06 PSD that was built late August of 05. After reading about the egr mysteriously unplugging I am wondering what I need to do to try this on mine.
I have talked to a few freinds from dealerships & they say that this will help the head gasket situation. I am running a Predator with no other mods yet to the engine. I am no stranger the Ford diesels as I had an 87 6.9, a 96 PSD that I never should have sold, and now thsi that I traded my 01 V-10 for, That was the best move ever made. I have enjoyed reading the helpful posts on here for several years & hopefully I can help someone out if at all possible. Thanks Guys
I was told by my ford tech after talking to him about the EGR putting the black smoke from my SCMT back into my intake that, with the new flashes, it’s not worth it to mess with the EGR. According to him, the early flashes DID hold it open too often, and would often get stuck, so it was worth messing with. However, the new EGR valves have a redesigned mating surface, to prevent sticking. The new flash also “exercises” the valve, meaning that if the valve is running half open, instead of just closing it, occasionally the computer will open it all the way and slam it shut, keeping it from sticking. The tech also said that with the newer flashes, the EGR only opens up in steady state modes (extended idle, cruise conditions), and that it closes when the accelerator is moved any significant distance.
This is what I was told by my tech, and I have enough confidence in his ability to believe him, so take this for what its worth.

That sounds like a plan then. I was just curious because my buddy has an early 05 so maybe built in 04 but he just had to get new head gaskets in his so it had me a touch concerned.
