Light bulbs
I pretty much go compact fluorescent any more. Save on the ol' electric bill, and in theory the bulbs last longer. I've had a few lemons, but for the most part they do last quite a while. The key is to get the lower color temperature bulbs, like 2700K or 3000K--it's a warmer light, so you don't get that blue look to everything.
I also like, for my desklamp, a halogen that replaces the incandescent bulbs. They're made with a really thick glass casing, that makes them only warm to the touch, not hot like a typical halo or incy.
