Are Optima batteries the best out there? I'm about to switch out my battery in my Bronco, because I plow with it and it seems as if the more I use the lower the charge is.
Here's a recent thread you might want to look at. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...d.php?t=455536
My take on them from what I have heard on here and people I know(I have never been able to afford one) is they are a very good battery with an excellent warrenty, but they are not the battery to end all batteries.
By the way I have a plow on my truck. I have the original stock alternator (65 amp?) and a regular battery that is now about 8 years old. I never have a problem with it not starting or running down the battery when I am plowing. But I will say I do have a trick that might be helping. I set the idle up a little bit when I am plowing. The plow works much better when I do this.
I ran a gauge directly from the from the battery and after I've been plowing for awhile and everything is heating up I can see the gauge dropping to below 13v. If I let it sit and cool down it will go back up to 14v. I've had the alt replaced with a higher output amperage, and it is only 2 years old, but it did it right away too. I've had the alt tested, but now that I think about it, it was tested when it was cold. A mechanic told me it sounded like my regulator was going bad.
