Talking remote (not) unlocking problem

have a '99 f150 super cab. one lock(drivers) will open with the remote , the other side(passenger) will not. do I need a new switch on the bottom of the door or a complete new locking system? passenger side switch on door panel will operate drivers lock but not passengers. should have bought another GM. fatfrito in KY.

Fatfrito,
Mine does the same thing.. Drivers side is good, passenger side unlocks about 1% of the time. I think it is the actuator (sp) which is replaceable. I would suggest changing the battery in the remote first...cheapest and easiest and see if that solves the problem, if not, hit the dealer, get the part number and specs and then go to Napa or where ever and get the part....

To me it is not that big of deal, I just use the key to unlock the passenger side. Besides, momma thinks she is special becuase I open the door for her....(little does she know it's really because the actuator is bad).... I think I'll just let he keep on thinking that.......

and if you're bitching becuase the thing went out on a 7 year old truck....then your right, you should have bought a GM.....that way you could have replaced it 6 years ago......lol..... good luck

If the locks behave the same whether you use the remote or either door switch, it's probably the actuator. Don't be surprised if the other (driver's) door also begins to fail randomly then stops working all together. From what I learned, it's not unusual for the actuators to go out soon after one another. (I had to replace both of mine two years ago.)

Despite what you may hear, replacing the actuators does not involve drilling out rivets. It's just a pain contorting your hands, and the part, in the confines of the door. Doing both at once had the advantage of using one as a guide to the other.

R8,

Careful now, you're going to motivate me to replace mine on the passenger door, then the wife will think I don't love her any more....lol..

Fatfrito, I will give mine a go this weekend and let you know how it goes, there is another pretty good thread on here, use the search, which describes how to replace it...
