After inspection today, I need front brake pads! Are there brands of brake pads that I should stay away from for these trucks since they are so heavy? I think I saw somewhere the Hawk? brand was liked for these trucks. My local Pep Boys carries the Raybestos PG+1 line for about $50 and the Hawks for about $70. They had another one cheaper at about $36 but the employee didn't even reccomend them. They also had ceramic but I don't think those are good for these trucks but not sure why. Maybe someone could give me the scoop?
Loved the Hawk pads when I put them on my truck. They seemed to stop it much better than the stockers. Make sure they get bedded in right there is an entire procedure to it. Hawk should have it on their web site. Don't know about ceramic pads, I have heard they go the other way. Clean wheels, but less stopping power. I am really picky about brakes, I usually go with OEM or high performance, it is not worth it to mess around with cheap pads, the price difference is not worth the squeaking and aggravation.
I'm getting ready for my second set of pads. Used the Raybestos the first time. Will be using them again this time. Have had no problems with them. Be sure to check your rear pads too. I replaced both front and rear last time. The rear was worn just a little less than the front. Not like rear drums that seem to last thru 2 sets of front pads.
I have an F250, but I used the HPS (High performance street). I assumed they were probably a slightly softer compound that would wear quicker but would stop better and would be worth it. Can't speak to any of the others.
